| We
invite you to come aboard!
In August 1996, the doors
to the two-story building at the west end of Whitecap were opened to all
the dedicated and hard-working members of the Padre Island Yacht club.
It was ten years in coming. When the first enthusiastic yachtsmen met in 1986 at Anchor Resort, the goal was to share
their common interest
in sailing, boating, racing, and to form new friendships in the process.
That happened–-and more!
As the membership grew, they needed a
place large enough to hold their increasing numbers. Minds went to work,
money was saved,
negotiations were finalized, and through the combined efforts of an accomplished
construction crew and the capable and willing hands of volunteer members,
the “clubhouse with a view” was built--and the rest is
history.
It is a house built with pride--a house of friendship
and the center of activity for over 150 families who enjoy a variety of
events planned for the water and fun loving young-at-heart.
Every Friday night we meet to socialize and watch the sunset--an evening for camaraderie and an opportunity
for relaxing after a long
week. It’s a well-attended event, and even larger numbers bring their
appetites to the monthly Blue Plate supper prepared by various and talented
member-chefs. Home cookin’ at it best!
Also once a month, it’s party time! Whether a Valentine’s
Day celebration, a summer family picnic, a progressive dinner party
by land and sea, or the Annual Anniversary Fish Fry--one thing for
certain--it’ll be fun!
Monthly cruises dot the calendar. Members needn’t fly to some distant
port to board the ship. They’ll be on their own “Cruise Ship”
or that of a fellow club member. The cruisers may drop anchor in a protected cove with a beach suitable for swimming,
or tie-up in a marina and enjoy cocktails and appetizers dockside before
supper. Many of the cruises are accessible
by land for those who prefer to drive to the point of rendezvous.
Come
be part of our family.
Come watch the sunsets.
Come join the fun.
