PIYC UPCOMING 2017  EVENTS!

Message from the Entertainment Deck:
SOCIAL DIRECTOR: Dar Capistrant

Dar Capistrand

Hey! My name is Dar Capistrant, and I am your Padre Island Yacht Club’s 2017 Social Director.

In the past the Club has had many fun events, and this year is shaping up to be no different. The yearly calendar is full of activities and events and more are being added all the time. Most parties are arranged around a theme such as the Super Bowl, 4th of July, Thanksgiving or Christmas. Many of the parties involve a cookout, potluck or just yummy appetizers with many of the events having the Club members kicking up their heels to various bands and artists. My goal as Social Director is to provide a variety of activities that that will cover everyone’s personal interests. I invite you to come to the Club, check us out, and see if all this fun is for you!

Message from the Fleet Captain, Below Decks:
CRUISE DIRECTOR: Jim Tipton

Jim Tipton

Blessing of the fleet is a worldwide event, happening at different times of the year. It may occur at the beginning of the year, beginning of the fishing season, etc. I'm introducing this as the first annual blessing of the fleet.

All boaters who wish to participate should bring their boat to the PIYC docks on January 21 at 2:00 pm. All club members are welcome to attend as well. The blessing will be performed by our very own ordained minister, the Reverend Fred Edler.
More details to follow.

This year we hoping to have a larger participation of "big" boats, involving overnight events as well as many small boat activities. Please let me know of any events or activities you would like to see on the calendar. The current cruise calendar can be amended. I need sponsors for the various events and would really appreciate having someone to help with the small boat events, especially since I do not have a small boat. Looking for a fun year on the water with all of you.

The Commodore's Message from the Bridge:

BUTCH SMITH

BUTCH SMITH

Hello everyone, I am honored to serve as your Commodore for 2017. I am looking forward to the challenge and will strive to do my best for the betterment of the PIYC and all its members.

I am blessed to have JoAnn my lovely wife at my side. She is such a great sidekick, supporter, and confidant who continues to keep me on task and pointed in the right direction.

I am confident that our Social Director (Dar Capistrant) and Cruise Director (Jim Tipton) will keep you all engaged with fun activities throughout the year. This year we will continue to do what we can with the finances we have to keep our facility in tip top shape. I would like to renovate the lower deck some this year and continue working on our docks.

I challenge you all to be an active member of our Yacht Club and to guide myself and the rest of your 2017 Executive Board to better serve however we can. Call or e-mail me at (361) 815-7431, texascsm@hotmail.com  with any issues you might have with anything from the front gate to the water. Please let me know your thoughts and concerns so we can continue to be the best social facility on the Island.

At your service,
Butch Smith

The Vice Commodore's Message from the Wheelhouse:
David Satterwhite

David Satterwhite

Hi all,
Happy New Year! I am proud to serve as your Vice Commodore working with Butch and supporting his goals. Along with Butch, I intend to continue working to achieve the continued excellence that the club has experienced in the past. We must see that our club continues to attract new members and steer it on a path that assures a sustainable future. Given that goal, I view my job as in charge of support services and I need help. I am asking that anyone with particular skills like electrical, plumbing, carpentry, not afraid of ladders, good at not killing plants, etc. and are willing to provide support, to get in touch with me. Email and phone both work. I would like to set up a list of skilled folks that can be called on to assist me with the various maintenance activities.
Have a safe and healthy New Year.

The New Year is here and it is time to put your jackets on go boating, fishing or just have fun on the water. We have two slips available for lease - perfect for medium size sail or power boats. Our year long efforts to bring the docks up to good condition is near completion with a big thanks to the Thursday morning work crew lead by Butch Smith. We upgraded electrical, repaired docks, installed over 20 new dock boxes and reinstalled over 100 dock cleats with new bolts and proper backing plates. Slip renters - a reminder - please get your registration and insurance paperwork in order. I will be asking for it by the end of the month. Thanks so much.
